MoH Spokesperson Calls On All Citizens to be Vaccinated After PM Orders Review of Previously Denied Cases

PHNOM PENH: Spokesperson for the Ministry of Health and Chair of the National Commission for Covid-19 Vaccination, Or Vandine, has called on all of the general population who have not yet been vaccinated, especially those who suffer from chronic illness or are currently pregnant or breastfeeding, to get vaccinated together.

The call comes just hours after Prime Minister Hun Sen ordered the Ministry of Health to reconsider the possibility of vaccinating the 70,000 people who had previously been denied vaccination in light of past health problems.

In a two-minute video released on Monday, Or Vandine said, "Please come and join us to prevent the spread of Covid-19 to strengthen our defense forces. Especially with the context of Omicron. In addition, I would like to call on people with physical illnesses, as well as pregnant and breastfeeding women, to come and get the vaccine, because this group is more in need to get vaccinated, especially for the booster dose or our third dose."

Speaking at the groundbreaking ceremony for the National Road No. 48 expansion project in Koh Kong province on Monday morning, Prime Minister Hun Sen ordered the Ministry of Health to re-evaluate more than 70,000 people to get vaccinated. These are people who had been previously denied vaccination by doctors due to a history of health problems.

The Prime Minister said, "In the past, at the Ministry of National Defense, Minister Tea Banh ordered everyone to get vaccinated, but no one could because the doctors did not allow it. Eventually, when they all got vaccinated, nothing happened! Now, let's review the more than 70,000 people who doctors did not let get vaccinated. Please review."

According to the National Vaccination Report, more than 14.3 million people have been vaccinated in Cambodia so far, of which more than 14.2 million have been fully vaccinated.
